Early Life and Swimming Career

Clarence Linden Crabbe II, known professionally as Buster Crabbe, was born on February 7, 1908, in Oakland, California. His father was a successful businessman, and his mother was a talented musician. Crabbe began swimming at an early age, and he quickly showed a natural talent for the sport. By the time he was 15, he had set several world records in swimming.

In 1928, Crabbe competed in the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. He won two gold medals, one in the 400-meter freestyle and one in the 1500-meter freestyle. He also won a bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle. Crabbe's Olympic success made him a national hero, and he was soon offered a contract to star in movies.

Film Career

Crabbe's first film role was in the 1931 movie "Swim, Girl, Swim." He played a young swimmer who falls in love with a wealthy debutante. The movie was a success, and Crabbe quickly became a popular leading man.

In 1932, Crabbe was cast as Tarzan in the movie "Tarzan the Ape Man." The movie was a huge hit, and Crabbe became synonymous with the role. He went on to star in 12 Tarzan movies, as well as several other jungle adventures.

In 1936, Crabbe was cast as Flash Gordon in the movie "Flash Gordon." The movie was another success, and Crabbe became a popular science fiction hero. He went on to star in two more Flash Gordon movies, as well as several other science fiction adventures.

In 1939, Crabbe was cast as Buck Rogers in the movie "Buck Rogers." The movie was another success, and Crabbe became a popular space hero. He went on to star in two more Buck Rogers movies, as well as several other space adventures.

Later Career

Crabbe continued to act in movies and television throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He also appeared in several stage productions. In the 1960s, Crabbe retired from acting and moved to Arizona. He died in 1983 at the age of 75.

Legacy

Buster Crabbe was one of the most popular actors of the 1930s and 1940s. He starred in over 100 movies and television shows, and he was a popular icon of the adventure genre. Crabbe's films continue to be enjoyed by audiences around the world.
