William Phelps:

William Lyon Phelps (1865-1943) was an American author, critic, essayist, and professor of English literature at Yale University. He was a prolific writer, publishing over 100 books and articles. Early Life and Education:

Phelps attended the Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven and then Yale University, where he graduated in 1887. He then studied at Harvard University, where he received a master's degree in 1889.

In 1892, Phelps was appointed an instructor in English literature at Yale University. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1896 and full professor in 1901. He remained at Yale for the rest of his career.
